City of Lost Souls
by Cassandra Clare
I finally got around to reading the fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series. I didn't love the 4th book so I guess that is why it took me so long to get around to reading this one. Only problem was that I couldn't remember what happened int the fourth book so I had to read a synopsis before I started this book so I had more of an idea of what was going on. I loved the first 3 in the series so much I was hopeful that this book would be more like the books enjoyed so much.
But I was pretty disappointed with this book. I just couldn't get into this story and it took me forever to get through the 500 plus pages of this novel. I found my self skimming through much of it just to finish it. The plot was somewhat interesting but I just found myself getting so annoyed with the characters and their decisions. Especially Clary, who kept making the worst decisions because she couldn't see past anything but her love for Jace. I also disliked the constant focus this book seemed to put on their sexual yearnings. That really seemed to be the main focus of this book which I found rather distracting from the rest of the story. I really wasn't looking to read a romance novel. I like romantic interest and relationship issues, but I don't need all the extra descriptions and bedroom scenes.
At this point I'm not sure if I will even bother reading the 6th book. I can't see it being any better then this one.

by Roald Dahl
My boys watched the preview for the new movie coming out with me and were immediately curious about the Big Friendly Giant. I thought the best way to answer all their questions was to read the story to them. This was a really fun book to read to them and they loved it. They looked forward to our reading time every night. I loved this book when I was a kid and I am so glad they enjoyed it too. I also haven't read a lot of chapter books out loud to them in the past and I am definitely planning on making this a regular part of our routine. It is a great way to snuggle up together and relax before bed. I'm hoping it will help increase their interest in reading chapter books.
Now the boys want to see the movie.
What are your favorite books to read out loud to your kids? I need some good suggestions!

I have been wanting to watch The Martian since it came out to the theaters. It was, by far, my favorite book I read last year and I was so excited to see how the movie turned out. Things just didn't work out so I never got to go to the Theater to see it but I finally managed to pick up a copy to watch at home.
I really enjoyed the movie. Even my husband thought it was entertaining and laughed at all the right parts. The most important thing for me was that they portrayed the main character correctly. He has a very distinctive personality and sense of humor, so it was important for me that this showed through in the movie. I thought that Matt Damon did a great job. His performance really reminded me of all the things I loved about that character.
It was such a relief to have a movie stay true to the book. I can't say the Same about The Scorch Trials. I'm not even sure anything in that movie was the same as the book.
What are your favorite Movies that were inspired by a book?
