A Little Princess

A Little Princess
by Frances Hodgson Burnett

I adore this story. I fell in love with this story as a young girl when I saw the movie. To be exact it was this version of the film:

I could only find it on VHS so maybe this movie was never put on DVD, which is unfortunate because this was a beautiful adaptation of this novel. It follows the book so closely that as I was reading the book again, each scene from the movie came vividly back to my memory.

I found a beautiful hardback copy at a garage sale for only 25 cents and I just couldn't pass it up. I was so excited to read this book and I am glad to have it as part of my collection of books.

This is such a touching story. And I'll admit that I cried, more then a few times. Sara Crew is a wonderful example of what it means to be a truly kind person. Despite the trials she was faced with she kept her head held high. Not that she didn't feel despair and sorrow at times but she stays true to who she is through out the story.

This is a wonderful classic that everyone should experience at least once. Even if it is just watching the film.

Little Critter

Don't you just love the Little Critter books?! I think they are hilarious.

I've been slowly collecting more every time I find them at Garage sales.

If you haven't read any of these to your kids yet you should, they are seriously cute!

Here are a few that I found recently.

Warlord of Mars

Warlord of Mars
by Edgar Rice Burroughs

It took me awhile but I finally finished this book. I believe that there are actually eleven books in this series but the first three follow John Carter and his adventures on Mars. This is the third book and it tied up the story of John Carter and his Princess nicely.

Just like the previous two books there is a lot of action involving fighting to the death, in impossible situations. It seems that John Carter is invincible or just plain lucky!

Even though I was glad to find out how the story turned out, I think I will be taking a break from these books for awhile. Although the Title of the Fourth book has me intigued. It looks like it follows one of the character, Thuvia, a freed slave from the previous books, who I would actually like reading more about. And since it is a women maybe there wouldn't be has much fighting and killing, maybe?

Heist Society

Heist Society
by Ally Carter

This was such a fun read. I liked it so much I immediately requested the second book at the library!

This story follows a teenage girl, named Katarina, who is from a family of professional thiefs. She had walked away from the family business, but in order to save her father she must complete one more job.

After reading the first couple pages, I knew I was going to like Katarina immediately.

It was kind of like The Italian Job or Ocean's Eleven but with a teenage crew. I loved all the different characters. From the love interest to the beautiful rival to the mischievous brothers, to the computer geek, to the new kid; they were the perfect crew.
The story moved well. I love fun, quick reads, like this book. I thought it is fun trying to figure out how they are going to pull off their job.

I hope the second book is as much fun as this one.

Children finds

We go garage sale shopping every saturday. Sometimes we find some great deals, sometimes we don't. Recently we have been having really good luck. Check out our latest picture book finds.

If You Give A Pig A Pancake
by Laura Numeroff

All the books in this series are great. I think the pictures are as fun as the story. Today at my son's preschool class, they read this story and then learned how to make pancakes. It was a fun lesson and all the kids loved it.

the day the goose got loose
by Reeve Lindbergh

For some reason I find anything illustrated by Steven Kellogg to be very nostalgic. This was a fun story about a goose getting loose on the farm. Almost as fun as the day the Boa got loose on the farm.

Happy Birthday, Moon
Frank Asch

I remember this book as a kid so when I saw it at a garage sale, I just had to snatch it up. This is a really cute story about the Moon, a little bear and his echo. I love it!

Beautiful Darkness

Beautiful Darkness
by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

I was excited to read the sequel to Beautiful Creatures and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed this book. There were some new interesting characters, some plot twists that I didn't see coming and it was fun to read.

I don't usually like to compare books to the Twilight series but I couldn't help myself while reading this book. This book introduces a love triangle to the plot which reminded me so much of Twilight. The difference being in this book the main character Ethan must choose between to girls, instead of Bella having to choose between to guys. In this story it is Lena who has supernatural powers and runs away from him and Liv who is there for him when he needs it the most. Sound familiar? Just switch Ethan with Bella and Lena and Liv with Edward and Jacob.  Interestingly enough I was always team Edward  (Lena in this story) but in this book I found myself starting to think Liv (Jacob in this story) would be a better choice for Ethan. I will wait until I read book 3, to really decide if I am team Lena or team Liv.

This book ends with some questions about the future and I can't wait to find out how it all turns out. I guess that means I need to put my hold request into the library soon...

The Throne of Fire

The Throne of Fire
by Rick Riordan

Book 2 of the Kane Chronicles was just as entertaining as the first book. I really love his style of writting. His dialogue is great and the story moves at a good pace.

In this book the story of Sadie and Carter Kane continue as the try to stop Apophis from escaping his prison and destroying the world. I once again loved learning more about Egyptian mythology and I thought the new characters were a great addition to this series.

I love reading these types of book because they are so quick and fun to read. I can't wait to read the next one.

Library Run

I had put a couple puts on hold at the library and have been patiently waiting for them to arrive. Yesterday I finally received word that one of them was available. I am so excited to start it. I even found a second book I have been looking for for a year on the shelf. Score.

While I was there picking up my books, I decided to pick up a few new books for my kids.

I found a few cute ones.

 Leonardo the Terrible Monster
by Mo Williams

This is a really cute book about a monster who tries his hardest to be scare and then has a change of heart. Not a lot of words, good pictures and a fun story, my favorite type of picture book. My boys really liked it, too.

 Milo's Hat Trick
by Jon Agee

A fun tale about a magician who wasn't so good at tricks until he met a bear who showed him the best Hat trick ever. The pictures were great and the story was funny. My boys are still talking about the magic show we went to this summer so this book was a big hit at our house.

by Jennifer Sattler

This cute story is about a flamingo who decides that begin pink isn't that much fun. I loved the pictures in this book. This would be a great book for kids learning all about different colors and patterns. Really cute story!

We found some really great books this time. Lets hope our next trip to the Library is just as successful!

Downton Abbey Official Series 3 Trailer: The Roaring Twenties

Are you getting tired of these updates, yet? I'm not... I love this show and I can't wait until season 3 starts, which I believe isn't until January. Looks like it is going to be good!
